The placement of a card in order from best to worst, based on the numeric or face value of the card irrespective of the suit. In many games, Aces may be used either as the highest ranking or lowest ranking card depending on the player's choice. The standard card rankings, from highest to lowest, are: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace.

The placement of a hand in order from best to worst. The standard hand rankings for the most common variations of poker are, in order from highest to lowest: Royal Flush, Any Straight Flush Lower than a Royal Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, One Pair, High Card.
