Passive
  1. Adjective

    Who frequently checks or calls even when betting, raising, or reraising may be advisable; tending to make the minimum allowable wager necessary to maintain a stake in the pot; weak; as opposed to aggressive.

    EXAMPLE: "The player on my left was really passive, so I folded immediately when that player went all-in."

    USAGE: Describes a player.

  2. Adjective

    In which there are many players who tend to make the minimum allowable wager necessary to maintain a stake in the pot; weak; as opposed to aggressive.

    EXAMPLE: "I tend to look for passive tables. I still don't win at them, but at least I get to play for longer before I lose my entire bankroll."

Passively

    Conducted with a tendency to wager as little money as possible while staying in the pot; weakly.

    EXAMPLE: "I tend to play fairly passively until I get a good sense of my opponents' strategies."
