Odds

  1. Noun

A comparison of the likelihood of one event either to the total range of possibilities or to the likelihood of another event.

EXAMPLE: "My odds of winning the hand were good, so I decided to raise."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues

  2. Noun

Ratio; a comparison of one number to another number without reference to the occurrence of events.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Example: Pot odds and edge odds are both numeric comparisons, but the resulting odds are a measure of existing conditions and not of future occurrences. While requiring a modifier indicating the type of comparison, the modifier can sometimes be implied rather than stated explicitly.

EXAMPLE: "The action was on me. There was $14 in the pot and only $1 to call, so the [pot] odds made it worth calling with my straight draw."

APPLIES TO: Online and Land-based Venues
